Certification

Product Certification

The GNBS operates a voluntary Product Certification Scheme under which manufacturers’ claims that their products are conforming to standards are validated by an independent third party.  The aim of the GNBS Product Certification programme is to implement and monitor certification systems in industries to provide assurance to local and foreign markets that locally manufactured products conform to requirements of the relevant Guyana Standards. Currently, gold jewellery and PVC pipes are certified by the GNBS.

Laboratory Certification

Laboratory Certification is the process by which a third party gives written assurance and recognition that a laboratory is conforming to specified requirements. Laboratories are certified by the GNBS to the National Laboratory Standard GYS 170 “General requirements for the operation of a laboratory”. Certification provides formal recognition that a laboratory has implemented a laboratory management system, thus providing a ready means for customers to identify and select reliable testing, measurement and calibration services to meet their needs. Currently, medical and testing laboratories are certified by the GNBS.

Certification to International Standards

Through it Consultancy Services Programme, the GNBS provides support to local businesses to aid their certification to a range of internationally recognized standards. These standards include the following:

  • ISO/IEC 17025 Standard: General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
  • ISO/IEC 17065 Standard: Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies certifying products.
  • ISO/IEC 17020 Standard: Conformity assessment – Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection.
