The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) joins with those in Guyana’s Medical Profession to celebrate Medical Laboratory Professionals Week during the period April 19 to 25, 2015 under the theme: “Laboratory Professionals – Get results”. More specifically, the GNBS takes this opportunity to recognize the contributions of Laboratory Professionals who have developed, implemented and maintained Laboratory Management Systems within their laboratories. The GNBS also wishes to recognize and encourage those laboratories which are still in the infancy stages of implementing their Management Systems. No doubt, laboratory results are very critical for decision making and the processes used to achieve those results must be controlled. The implementation of a Laboratory Management System meeting the requirements of the GYS 170 Standard, General requirements for the operation of a laboratory, provides a framework for any medical laboratory to ensure that it “gets results” which are accurate, reliable and useful to diagnose medical complications of patients, which will facilitate the appropriate medical prescriptions. Without a laboratory management system, a laboratory has no recognized way of assuring its customers who include doctors, patients, insurance companies, embassies, regulatory authorities and other interested parties that the results they provide after conducting the required tests on a sample are reliable. The GNBS has the expertise to work with potential and currently certified laboratories to ensure they implement and maintain a laboratory management system. The GNBS congratulates the Laboratory Professionals of all the certified laboratories including the Dr. Balwant Singh Hospital Laboratory, Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Medical Laboratory, Eureka Medical Laboratories Inc. (Georgetown), St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Laboratory, Georgetown Medical Centre Laboratory, Quest Medical laboratory, Medical Arts Laboratory and the Woodlands Hospital Laboratory for their dedication and commitment towards implementing laboratory management systems and playing a leading role in “getting results”.
