The Guyana Water Incorporated Laboratory was today certified for the first time by the GNBS after it fulfilled the requirements of the National Laboratory Standard – GYS 170: 2009 General Requirements for the operation of a laboratory. The certification, which should last for two years, covers Microbiology, Chemistry and Sampling of water the company produces. Impromptu audits will be conducted by the GNBS during the certification period to ensure the laboratory maintains conformance to the requirements.

Speaking at the simple ceremony, in the GWI Boardroom, located at the Shelter Belt Office, Vlissengen Road, CEO of the company, Dr. Van West Charles expressed his satisfaction at the accomplishment of the Laboratory. The CEO of the water company concluded that this new certification is all in the company’s efforts to improve the quality of water offered to the citizenry. Meanwhile, Ms. Rodlyn Semple, Head, Conformity Assessment Department of the GNBS stated that she is pleased that the GNBS was able to work with and certify this very important laboratory. Ms. Semple also took the opportunity to highlight the conditions of the certification to staff of the company in the presence of members of the media, who were in full attendance.
