Participants of ISO IT Workshop in Guyana

Participants of ISO IT Workshop in Guyana

October 30 to November 01, 2018. We are honoured to collaborate with the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to host this important workshop in Guyana.

This collaboration is a demonstration of ISO’s commitment towards increasing the involvement of developing countries in the development of international standards. This course will equip the IT Administrators at National Standards Bodies with the tools to facilitate the participation of national experts in the international standards development process.

The application of International Standards will facilitate the development of our respective local economies by ensuring the acceptance of products and services globally for economic development. Guyana should be very excited about this programme at this juncture where the production of new found oil will change the landscape of this country’s development. ISO standards and involvement in their development will be of critical importance for the development of local products and services for this new industry.

Currently, Guyana is a participating member of five (5) ISO Technical committees namely; Petroleum, Foods, Timber, Concrete structures and Tourism. National experts have attended meetings of the Petroleum, Concrete structures and Tourism for 2018.

Meanwhile, the ongoing ISO Training course should allow the IT Administrators to enable the participation of National experts at ISO Technical committees to make contributions towards the development of International standards. Each participating country will be able to establish National Mirror Committees for ISO Technical committees of interest.

It is my hope that all participants implement the tools taught during this ISO programme so that their respective countries can benefit. We must also recognise the transfer of knowledge from ISO to our respective countries.

In concluding, I take this opportunity to welcome participants from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and host country Guyana. To our visitors, I invite you to savour the time spent in Guyana. Please enjoy the beauty of our country and what we have to offer; our local cuisines, the gigantic Atlantic Ocean, art and craft items and our warm hospitality. We have provided you with brochures to wet your appetite and we hope this will not be your first and last visit to Guyana. Not forgetting the facilitator, M François Mieville, Business Analyst, Information Technology and Electronic Services (ITES), ISO Central Secretariat, welcome to this part of South America, we hope that you have a warm and memorable experience. Welcome and do have a productive workshop.
