Over the next three days, five local regulatory agencies including the Guyana National Bureau of Standards will be represented at a Regional training workshop which is being held for agencies and organizations that routinely participate in inspections and related activities.
The workshop, which is being conducted at the Grand Coastal Hotel, East Coast of Demerara, will run from June 27 – 29, 2016 and it will focus on the International standard – ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Requirements for the competence of bodies performing inspections.
The broad objective of the workshop is to educate participants on the requirements of the standard so as to allow them to better relate these requirements to their own organisations and to ensure impartiality and consistency of the inspection activities they conduct.
Apart from the GNBS, Officers from the Government Analyst Food & Drug Department, Veterinary Public Health Unit, Guyana Rice Development Board and the Guyana Forestry Commission are participating in the workshop. In addition, seventeen (17) participants are from inspection bodies in countries across the CARICOM Region including Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and the Bahamas.
The workshop, which is organized by the CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ), in collaboration with the other 10th EDF- TBT Programme implementation partners (Physikalisck Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and the Instituto Dominicano para la Calidad) (INDOCAL) is being facilitated by Mr. Edgar Gravel, an Educator, International Peer Evaluator/Trainer, Laboratory Assessor and Accreditation Expert from Canada.
